Equalizer References

For the equalizers, I had images of prolonged exposure shots that my friend and I had taken a while back. I thought that they worked well.

City Sounds

The concept art is underway. I was looking at sounds to use for the animation. The fusion of urban sounds and music got me to The City Symphony from the film August Rush.

The Infinity

To incorporate the "Some Infinities are Bigger Than Other Infinities" quote, I wanted to show cityscapes transforming into other cityscapes.
I thought that I would show this by zooming out of one city and entering another one and continuing that process.
There was a video that I saw on Mtv once (I think), a long time ago. It showed landscapes transforming into other landscapes. Unfortunately, I have no idea what it is called and could not find it on the internet.

Your Face by Bill Plympton somewhat reminds me of my idea with regards to the continuity of the transformation.

Further Down The Rabbit Hole

I was kindly suggested by Phil to look at the work of futurist painters such as Balla. Looking at cubist cityscapes, I was reminded of the work of artist, Marc Chagall and Van Gogh's Starry Night.

These paintings have plenty of colours and that fits in beautifully with the idea of the sound equalizers.

First Ever Concept Art

This is the first concept art I did to get an idea of the city with dancing lights. If you look closely, you can see the equalizers on the buildings.

Let me know what you think.

The Ongoing Process

So I recently read a book called The Fault in Our Stars by John Green. In this book, there is a quote that goes something like this:

The story is about two cancer patients who have little time to live. One of the patients is more terminal than the other. He has a lesser number of days to live. What the author writes is that numbers are infinite. The numbers between 1 and 2 are infinite. They are all infinities. However, the infinity of this patient is smaller than the rest of us. Hence, the quote, "Some infinities are bigger than other infinities"

I want to incorporate this idea by showing an ongoing process in a city. Being in Mumbai at present, this idea fits. It is known as 'The city that never sleeps"

The City of Sound

Right. I have been thinking about the summer project a lot in these heated times.
With the city as the theme, I wanted to incorporate sound. But to transform sound into image, I referenced Michel Gagne's Sensology and Norman McLaren's Begone Dull Care (1949). Even the EKG Graphs in hospitals:

Equalizers:

All these, I thought, worked well with the elements of a city. I then thought of fusing the two. I thought that I would make a city play the music. The buildings would be the equalizers, the passing trains would be the the EKG graphs. The stars could be the notes on sheet music. Something to that degree.
Let me know what you think.
